Whatever could be done to bring in new blood would help. Quake is slowly dying because there's no "new blood" coming into the fold. That could only be a good thing for the community. People playing offline would still be playing, thus expanding the playerbase. There are many who would like to play but are simply cut off from doing so, because of the current public server protocols. Quake has always been a game that's attracted people from around the globe. Indeed, I can see how you might have arrived at this conclusion, but I demur. Originally posted by Arkonei:I hope not, people who stay offline don't contribute at all to keeping this game alive. Making QC free was the last and biggest mistake they made by far with this game. The fact that this might not be possible in the future with QC takes away a lot of the joy of playing the game.

I'm still playing Quake I with mods to this day. "Always online" turns games into rental services, makes them disposable. On top of not contributing with a single cent, most of the f2p audience will move on to the next best FREE game in a heart beat. Most people that are in to f2p games wouldn't give a crap if the game disappeared if the servers would shut down. Some of them wanted LAN support and community server support as well. You can search for "offline bots" in the Steam forums, Bethesda QC forums, reddit, etc.Ī lot of people, mostly fans of the previous games, wanted this feature especially when the game was still a new arrival. Bethesda seems to not care at all even though this topic pops up even to this day. I've been vocal about the offline support. Since then I've been waiting for another such "pure" shooter and Quake Champions plays just like it and improves every aspect except indeed ruining the fluency of gameplay for those without fast internet connection.

I fondly remember the teenage days of playing Quake 3 agains bots while listening to Korn or The Prodigy.

I am happy that you share my impressions.
